Last week it dawned on me that I haven’t shot a single great picture since I started working on the ship. I’m taking hundreds of photos every single day for work but every single one is complete crap. At least in my opinion and compared to what I normally shoot. It’s just staged pictures of smiling people with no time for composition or anything, just a close crop and a flash directly in their face. Oh well but that’s what they want and I’m not able to change anything about that. Of course I take lots of photos when I go out into the cities on my own. These are sometimes good shot, taken the way I want to shoot. But still I never get to be out in great light, always in the middle of the day and never during sunset or at night. I needed to change something in order to stay sane. One photo I had in my mind even before embarking on the ship was a shot of the white nights. White Nights are a phenomenon in the far north during summer when the sun never really sets at night but instead you always have that faint glimmer of orange light on the horizon. An incredible sight. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take this picture for a while. Either because the weather was to bad when we were in St. Petersburg or I was to tired after working all day. But last week everything was falling into place perfectly last week and I took my tripod and camera out around midnight and I finally got the pictures. These are finally some pictures that I’m proud of and am happy to say that they represent my style and quality that is known in my work.
Ok so that was just something I had to get off my chest now that I have finished my second month on board. Oh yeah I halfway through! But other than that life just keeps going, every week a new cruise starts, I get to visit four beautiful european cities every week and I’m getting annoyed by new passengers every week. Theres not much more to say to be honest. But apart from the pictures above I of course also have new shots from the streets of Tallinn, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. I’m not going to way much about those just enjoy and until next time.
