Picture of the Day 01.02.2016
New Zealand never disappoints. After spending the last days shooting the incredible landscapes this country has to offer I went for something quite different today. I'm in Kaikoura right now which is home to the largest marine national park in New Zealand. You can see many different birds and dolphins but the most impressive sight are of course the whales. That's what I did. One the way out on the sea we spotted a lot of dolphins which are really fun to photograph as there are so many of them and they are always fast moving. I have way to many pictures of them. But then we spotted the sperm whale. I always thought that they were rather fast moving and you would have to get lucky to get a good shot. Well that's not the case, after a long dive they surface and spend about 10 minutes catching their breath. Just incredible to have a whale bigger than your boat lying around so very peacefully.Once they decide it's time for another dive that's when the action starts. Everyone's on their camera trying to catch that perfect moment of the tail out of the water. One chance and then you have to wait another 45 minutes for him to resurface again.
