Picture of the Day 02.11.2015
Don't you think it's incredible how much you can do in a day if you just get up at 4 in the morning? It's not even noon and I already have my picture finished and online. Ok let's start in the beginning. I guess everyone already knew why I was travelling to Siem Reap, Cambodia: I wanted to see Angkor Wat and especially shoot the sunrise there. So I booked a TukTuk for this morning to take me there very very early. Unfortunately when I woke up it was raining but I had already paid so I was hoping for the best. When I arrived at Angkor Wat it was already packed with people waiting for the sun. That was an hour before sunrise and it only got fuller. But I found a nice spot, mainly due to pocking people with my tripod until they let me stand where I wanted to stand, and now I started hoping. When the sun was just below the horizon a small band of clouds opened up and allowed for some awesome early morning color light to come through. I got just so lucky that the photos turned out ok even with all the clouds. The only thing that got really really annoying where all those people. As soon as the sun was a little bit higher and the clouds were really lit up nicely people just started walking all over the place to take close up selfies with their phones. I know you can see those colors on a crappy phone anymore but if you know what you are doing the pictures would have been amazing. Oh well I guess that's the reason why you only ever see silhouette pictures of Angkor Wat. The only way to get rid of the people is to underexpose the shadows completely.
After the sunrise I spend some hours exploring more of the temples. They are just so incredible and every temple is so different from the other but they're all beautiful in their own way. Angkor Wat is a huge area (and I was kinda tired) so you can't really see everything in one day. I actually really only got a small glimpse. But I bought a 3 day ticket so I'm planning to go again tomorrow and maybe for another sunrise the day after. Angkor Wat at sunrise is definitely something everybody should go and see in their lifes.
