Picture of the Day 04.03.2016
Awww such a cute sloth...that's basically everyone's reaction when they come to Manuel Antonio National Park and spot their first animal. And they really are cute and slow. I have seen a few of them today and only ever saw one move. It was scratching its belly in slow-motion. Another one I spotted one a branch when I entered the park and when I left about 6 hours later it was still in exactly the same spot. Actually spotting them is harder then you think because they blend in really well with the environment and generally sleep pretty far up in the trees but luckily there are guided tours everywhere so if you see them stand somewhere just hang around and see what they found. Other than sloths I also saw a lot of monkeys, the really curious white faced monkeys and the small squirrel monkeys. All of them really cute. There where also a lot of birds but they were mostly too small or too far away for a decent photo. Bird-Photography is just to much work, I stay with what I can do without carrying gigantic lenses all over the world. In addition to the great wildlife Manual Antonio also offers some great, paradise-style beaches. A great way to cool down after walking around a humid and hot rainforest for hours. But the heat is really the only challenge there, all the trails are in great condition and out of concrete, so no real adventure here, I had those farther north. All in all Manuel Antonio National-Park is high up on my list of things to do here although it is small and crowded but I haven't seen so many cool animals anywhere else before.
This is all from the pacific, I'm heading to Cahuita on the Caribbean-Coast tomorrow. It's only about 150km away but as there is no direct bus-connection I have to go up to San Josè first and will probably spend my whole day in a bus.
