Picture of the Day 11.12.2015
This picture was taken with a broken camera. Yesterday it happened, my main lens broke, I always expected it to happen at some point but I thought it was while doing something cool. Yesterday after loading the photos on my laptop and posting the daily picture here I put the laptop in my backpack and picked the whole thing up to bring it safely into the room. It was just in that moment I heard the horrible sound of my camera hitting the floor and glass shattering. I forgot to close the camera part of the bag. The sight was horrible with class all over the floor and my camera right in the center of it. Fortunately the glass was just from the filter and the rest of the lens and camera seemed intact. At least that's what I thought after the first test shoots. Was I really that lucky? Is the camera really that though? Well yes the camera itself is unharmed but as I quickly found out I wasn't so lucky. I took a look through the lens and as it turned out the aperture is broken. Pieces of it are hanging inside the lens and naturally it won't close down anymore. The local camera shop could at least remove the destroyed filter but I'm now stuck with a lens that is constantly wide open. A repair would mean sending it to Nikon and I would be without a lens for at least a month but probably longer. The only other option would be buying a completely new lens....but I can't afford that at the moment....well I also can't afford not taking pictures. I'll have to figure something out. Today I arrived in Byron Bay, a hippie-surfer town close to Brisbane. Seems really great.
