Picture of the Day 27.11.2015
The search for the lesser known tourist attractions continues. If you ever wanted to know what a wasted man-pig looked like or an animal organized cricket fight club and of course what the punishment for the possession of pornographic material is. By the way it getting your body sawed into half. Well than you have to visit the Haw Par Villa Amusement Park. Although the word "amusement" doesn't really seem to fit here. The park was build in the 1930s by the inventors of Tiger Balm and shows scenes from the Chinese mythology. The highlight of the park are the "10 courts of hell" which very graphically show the different stages sinners have to live through after death and what specific crimes are punished. It is really really weird and I can't understand how they take their children there. The rest of the park and the displayed stories are just as random. The overall condition of the statues are quite bad with the paint coming off everywhere and many parts closed down but that just adds to the experience. There is no entrance fee to enter the park so if you don't know what else to do in Singapore have a look. It will definitely be one of the most random amusement parks you'll ever visit.
