Picture of the Day 30.01.2016
Mt.Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand and definitely one of the most beautiful places on my long list of beautiful places in New Zealand. This is only partly due to the incredible weather here today but all those glacier are really impressive on their own. When you are driving up from Queenstown to Mt.Cook you will pass some really spectacular landscape but once the snow-covered mountain shows up in the distance it just beats everything else. I'm so happy about the weather today after the disappointment at Franz Josef. Shortly after I arrived at my hostel, which by the way has spectacular views of the mountains and glacier all around here, I went for walk to Hooker-Lake. This is where you will find the best views of Mt.Cook. The pictures I took there are good as well and I'm definitely going to show some of them later but then the sun set and it changed everything. Of course the sun set behind the mountains and no clouds meant for a rather boring sky. But after some exploring I found this spot just down the street from the hostel (I know, I'm lazy) which offered a great view of the mountain just in time for the last bits of sunlight to hit it. A perfect moment. Now with a sky so clear and basically nothing around here but mountains I just need to go look at the stars tonight. Wish me luck.
