Before starting my big trip in less than two months I decided to use the meantime productively and go on a short trip to Prague with a friend. Since it only being about a three hour drive away from where I studied in Bamberg I’m surprised I didn’t went there before. Well three hours that is when your bus should be on time. We decided to take the MeinFernbus Flixbus which is the cheapest way to get there but as it turned out not the most reliable. Before even going to the bus station I got a text saying our bus was delayed for about two hours. So we decided to have breakfast first and then waited at the station and after more than two hours a bus heading to Prague finally arrived. Unfortunately this wasn’t the bus we booked but one that was actually scheduled to leave at a later time and we should wait another hour for our one to come. Well after some discussions we were on this bus and with just about 2,5 hour delay and a stop in Pilsen we finally arrived in Prague.
Prague is just such a beautiful city. Not only are the streets an buildings in the old town amazing to look at but there is always something going on. With street performers, artists and musicians everywhere it is just an amazing atmosphere and fun wether you are hanging around the Old Town Square or fighting through the masses of tourists on Charles Bridge. Speaking of tourists, they are everywhere, maybe it wasn’t the best idea to go there during high season in summer.
Summer also meant it was hot, like really hot which made sightseeing and walking around or even just standing in the sun a lot more challenging and exhausting. But still we managed to see everything important in our roughly four days in town. We went up to Prague Castle to watch the actually rather overrated and boring changing of the guards at noon and enjoy some great views of the city. And in a attempt to escape some of the heat we went up Petrin hill by Funicular to get some shade in the forrest. Up there you can climb a simple copy of the Eiffel Tower for an even better view of whole Prague and the surrounding area. Oh and most importantly to mention we found some cute owls there which you could pet. But in the end what I enjoyed most was walking around the old town and onto Charles Bridge just after sunset when the temperature was finally bearable and light and the illuminated city were just looking incredible and perfect to photograph.
When it was time to go home on Thursday we had, you guessed to, another problem with the bus. We arrived at the station in time with just 15 minutes or so for the bus to arrived but it didn’t. Once again we spend another two and a half hours waiting for a bus. I don’t know if it was just an unfortunate coincidence that they were late both times but at the moment I wouldn’t really recommend going to Prague by MeinFernbus.
But what I really do recommend is going to Prague which really is rightfully called the Paris of the east. Now here are some more pictures of the trip taking with my Nikon D750 and 20mm, 50mm, and 85mm Nikkor lenses. I also had a GoPro with me mainly to test it out and see if I want to take one with me on the around the world trip but maybe there is a short Prague video coming if I find enough good material. But for now enjoy the pictures and till next time, wherever I’ll be by then.
